Sew Your First Quilt

If you have ever dreamed of making a quilt but felt overwhelmed by the time involved or wished that someone could sit with you and show you how… this online course is for you.

Sew Your First Quilt was designed by an experienced quilter who is able to take a big beautiful project and break it down into small and manageable steps that you can fit in around your day-to-day life.

Whether you are new to sewing or know your way around a machine, the modules are set up in a way where you can watch a video clip as many times as you want or skip ahead. You will have fun learning how to choose your fabric, how to safely use a rotary cutter, do accurate piecing, quilt your layers, and finally bind your quilt.

You will also have access to a private Facebook group for one-on-one support (if needed) and it’s a great way to connect with other quilters in the course. It’s fun to see fabric choices, to ask questions, and to work through the project together from anywhere in the world.

Once you are done, you will have a beautiful Seven Eleven Quilt that you made yourself and the skills and knowledge to start your next project! A Seven Eleven is the perfect size to snuggle under while watching T.V. or, if you can part with it, a beautiful gift for a loved one.

Peggy Johnson
Peggy Johnson

Peggy has been quilting for 20 years and has created close to 50 quilted pieces, whether quilts, table runners, or wall hangings for family, home, or the cabin.

Her colours of choice tend to be earth tones and civil war prints. But now with 4 small grandchildren, “Grammy” now sews with brighter colours. Peggy enjoys working with hexagons, doing English Paper Piecing, hand embroidery and working with wool. From this course, she hopes to spark a love of quilting for you!

I love my quilt! I had never sewn anything on a sewing machine before. I just knew that I had always wanted to make a quilt, so I invested in this course. I invested in myself. I said, I’m going to do this because I really want to, and I was terrified.

But Peggy’s voice was so calm. She believes in you and totally exudes confidence. It was so straightforward and the steps were small. It was okay to do a little bit while feeling confident and then walk away and come back to it later. I was teaching. I have kids. I have a husband. I have a house. There are other things I have to do but I really wanted to do this project. I had time to do what I had to do in the world and come back to it.

- Aynsley Maxwell, K-8 Educator

"Peggy has a wonderful grasp of choosing fabric and colour, plus her machine techniques and hand stitching projects are off the charts!" - Nancy Evans, Cabin Country Quilt Guild

"When it comes to quilting, Peggy stands out from the rest! We admire and are awed by what Peggy makes considering her busy schedule. We are very fortunate to have her as part of our guild. Peggy often brings tips & methods to improve and sometimes simplify our quilting lives." - Bev Thomson, Cabin Country Quilt Guild
